When do we use it?

We use the word "binge" to talk about consuming a lot of something in a short period of time. The most common expressions are "to binge eat", "to binge drink", and "to binge watch".

"Binge-drinking" is a very harmful and dangerous activity. However, it is quite common among young people, especially on university campuses.

It is not binge-drinking if you drink a bottle or two of wine, but you drink slowly while eating and talking to your friends. Binge-drinking is hard and fast drinking like taking 5 shots of whiskey in less than an hour or two.
